Sounds like: A touch of Tech, a dash of Disco, and a swagger of Electro-House
Started off the show with Tensnake’s remix of PSB’s “Thursday” off their new-ish LP Electric and unfortunately I couldn’t find the original on my hard drive to work into the set. You can hear the album version below.
Electric has a good mix of new and old PSB sounds and arrangements. I haven’t heard too much mainstream buzz about the album but I was delightfully surprised to overhear someone listening to “Love is a Bourgeois Construct” on the TTC last Thursday and before I get off on too much of a tangent, I just wanna say, I’m a fan of the album.
Aaaannnyyyway, after “Thursday” things go a bit techy before settling into a funky filtered Disco House vibe and I thought I’d “Do What I Wanna Do” and jock DJ Mes & Sonny Fodera’s 2010 re-edit of T-Connection’s 1977 disco jam “Do What You Wanna Do.” As I was looking for my next song I happened upon Paul Cayrol’s 2011 re-edit of the same track and noticed that with the exception of the intro and outro, a few white noise filter sweeps, and the mastering, it sounds very similar to DJ Mes & Sonny Fodera’s track . Then again, how many different ways can you cut up a classic disco joint without ruining the groove?
Things take a left turn with the Simon Knowles remix of Tyra B’s RnB hit and the rest of the show veers off into big room Electro House. Mash-up master DJ Schmolli get’s cheeky with an ASS-themed mix and I close the show with a way-back-play-back from 1998, FatBoy Slim’s “How Can You Hear Us?” This track still kills.
