DJ T-1000 and co. @ The Basement

This past Saturday I discovered, at the last minute, the opportunity to catch Alan Oldham aka DJ T-1000 in a very intimate night at the Basement. It was kind of a shame that the night didn’t get the traffic it deserved, but on the flip side there was plenty of space to dance!

Upon arrival, Twonz was spinning some deep, dubby, techno and did a good job setting the stage for Alan Oldham who absolutely rocked it!

Oldham played a good variety of new and old tracks and I was especially delighted to hear a thumping remix of Machine’s “By the Grace of God There Go I” and later on a Front 242 track! It’s been a while since I’ve seen a techno dj play an all vinyl set and I was very impressed by his seamless and energetic performance. I got the chance to chat with Alan after his set and his passion for techno is obvious and infectious.  Check his new set here.

Regrettably, I was pretty beat by the time Kenny Glasgow came on and although he played a few tracks that had me groovin;’ a long day in the sun had taken it’s toll on me and about halfway through his set I left.

The Basement was a great venue for this kind of jam and I hope that the mediocre turnout doesn’t dissuade those involved in throwing this party from trying again!

Whatchya say to me now?
